2025 COACHES


 Head Coach Val'D'Or QMJHL  [Quebec Major Hockey League] Mario began his coaching career in 2000-01 when he was hired by the Victoriaville Tigres to be their Head Coach. In just his second season at the helm in 2001-02, Mario took his team all the way to win the QMJHL league championship and on to the Memorial cup where they eventually lost in the final game to the Kootenay Ice. Mario’s next two stops in the QMJHL would be as Head Coach for the Lewiston Mainiacs in 2003-2004 and in Acadie-Bathurst in 2005-06. Mario would then spend five seasons coaching for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, for two seasons as Assistant Coach and the next three as Head Coach. 2011-12 saw him as an Assistant Coach again this time with Chicoutimi. In 2012-13 he was back as a Head Coach, this time with Val-d’Or where he has taken them this season all the way to Game 7 of the league championship final. Mario also has experience with Canada’s National Junior team twice serving as an Assistant Coach in the 2003 and Head Coach in 2004 World Junior Hockey Championship. Currently special consultant to QMJHL GM and Head Coach and Development  coordinator for Lithuania World Junior prograns U 20 and U18's 

     
       
Shawn Evans 2024 Coaching HOA Girls and Atom Teams.
HC and GM Truro Bearcats MHL.2018 Assistant Coach to Canada East Jr.A team. Defenseman Shawn Evans was born in Kingston, Ontario and was drafted in the second round by the New Jersey Devils in the midst of his junior career with the Peterborough Petes. Just before his first professional season was to begin, Evans was traded by the Devils to the St. Louis Blues He played his first year of pro hockey with the Peoria Rivermen, the main minor league affiliate of the Blues, and was called up to St. Louis for seven games that year. Evans didn't register a point during his brief NHL stay. On October 15th, 1986, the Blues traded Evans to the Edmonton Oilers for tough guy Todd Ewen. Evans spent the next two seasons with the Nova Scotia Oilers of the American Hockey League. With no future in Edmonton, Evans signed a free agent contract with the New York Islanders on June 20, 1988.The '88-'89 campaign was spent with the Islanders farm club in Springfield, as was the majority of the following year. However, Evans did get a call-up from the Islanders, playing two games and scoring what would prove to be his only NHL goal he signed two more NHL contracts, with the Boston Bruins and the Hartford Whalers.Shawn is currentlyassistant coach with Gatineau QMJHL 



Blair Joseph  was with HOA  for over 25 Years . We lost this Cape Breton Icon in June of 2023.
Former Asst. Coach Cape Breton Screaming Eagles QMJHL, Recently inducted into the CB Sports Hall of Fame.  
Although he will no longer be behind the bench he will stay on this website as an HOA Coach he is a true example of what is 
good about this game. He loved the game he loved the players of all ages and levels and you ever met him you will remember him as one of those special people 
you will never forget. A great coach but an even greater person. I will always be proud to say he was my friend.

                                         

                 

 Craig Russell 
Craig is in his 14th year as Head coach at Plymouth State in 2014-15, and his 16th year with the Panther hockey program. He played four seasons in a Panther uniform, served five years as assistant coach, two as associate head coach, and in 2010 became the eighth head coach in the program’s 40years.

 Russell has had two very successful campaigns in his first two years as head coach. After leading the team to a 15-6-5 overall record and a third place in the MASCAC in 2011, he guided the Panthers to a 17-7-3 mark in 2012, the MASCAC regular season and tournament championships, the first championships in the 40-year history of the program, and the first berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament
